Daniel Guermeur, founder of Metadot Corporation, an open source software company, created Das Keyboard because he believed the only way to improve his typing skills was to stop looking at the keys. Having a blank keyboard with a great tactile feel would be the ultimate answer.
So he went on a mission to look for the best quality components available and had the ultimate blank keyboard custom made for him. After few weeks of using this keyboard his typing speed increased considerably. In fact it doubled!
Many friends and colleagues who tested his keyboard were mesmerized by the wonderful tactile feel. It was unlike anything they'd experienced and they involuntarily muttered "oh" and "ah" while typing. Before long the prototype keyboard was coveted by all who touched it. Daniel thought, "Maybe there's a larger market than just me?"
If you think about it, many people spend the majority of their time on a computer.
Ask yourself: What is the object you put your hands on many hours a day sometimes 8 or more hours a day?
Answer: a keyboard.
So, if you spend so much time touching something it should be a pleasure; something terrific and enjoyable, not a squeaky-mushy-unresponsive-five-dollar keyboard. And why not have a little reward each time you type a key? How about a little audible click? This was the beginning of the adventure: "the keyboard that clicks."
Marketing a keyboard can be very boring, but if you make the best keyboard money can buy without any quality compromises, it becomes exciting. Birgit Guermeur undertook the mission of bringing this product to the masses.
Das Keyboard is now available with or without inscriptions to all who want to experience the nirvana of all typing experiences.
