The Das Keyboard story

The boldest keyboard design we have ever made. In March 2025 the DeltaForce 65 landed on the desks of over 500 Kickstarter backers, and in April it launched to the public: a full-metal, gasket-mounted 65% board with a CNC aluminum case, five-sided dye-sublimation PBT keycaps, hot-swappable Gateron Red switches, south-facing RGB and full QMK/VIA support. Available in four camo-inspired colorways: Jungle, Urban, Desert and Cyber Kamo.

The Das Keyboard 6 Professional launched with Cherry MX switches, a dedicated volume knob, USB-C connectivity, and a clean aluminum design. It was recognized by reviewers as one of the best professional keyboards available.

It began in Austin with a keyboard that had nothing printed on it. Not a minimal legend set, not shine-through characters — 104 completely blank keycaps.

The reasoning was straightforward. A touch typist never looks at the keys, so the legends do nothing except invite you to glance down and slow yourself up. Take them away and there is nothing to check against. Within about a week most people stopped noticing they were gone.

The idea travelled further than a small Austin company expected. In May 2005 The New York Times ran it in the Circuits section under the headline “A Keyboard That Lets the Supremely Confident Show”, and the orders followed.

Twenty years on, the blank keyboard is still in the line — the Das Keyboard 4 Ultimate is the same idea with Cherry MX switches under it.
